Resoursonance: An Upcycled Concert
Combining worlds of waste and music, The Rubbish Trip and The Third Eye – Tuatara’s Temple of Taste are excited to bring you Resoursonance: Musical Upcycling – a concert of original and recycled songs, spoken word and a healthy dose of free and structured improvisation, exploring themes of wastefulness and resourcefulness.
Performing the music on a mix of upcycled and modified conventional instruments are a brilliant bunch of local professional musicians: Hannah Fraser on violin and vocals, Ruby Mae Hinepunui Solly on cello and taonga pūoro, Bridget Anne Kelly on tenor saxophone and clarinet, Anantha Narayanan on alto saxophone, Ayrton Foote on piano, no-waste nomad Liam Prince on drums/percussion, and local instrument creator extraordinaire Mikey Jamieson on the tea chest bass, lagerphone and various other upcycled creations! We will be joined for a couple of songs by the very gifted Nikau Te Huki on vocals and guitar, Blair Latham on tenor saxophone and bass clarinet, and even the other no-waste nomad Hannah Lardthumb on vocals and percussion! PLUS there will be musical contributions from a range of special guests, including the exceptional Sam Palmer on taonga pūoro, and others playing the most weird and wonderful instruments – could that be you?!
This concert is the culmination of a workshop series on upcycling/making musical instruments from all manner of everyday found objects (from junk to natural materials) – sourced from the Second Treasures tip shop, secondhand and op shops, the natural and city environments, and our living and work spaces. At the concert, you’ll get to see some of the instruments and techniques developed throughout the workshops – you’ll even have the chance to participate in the music on one of these instruments!
At its core, Resoursonance shows that music’s role isn’t just to inspire and educate – all of us have to walk the talk too. Resoursonance highlights music as one specific area in which a resourceful, waste-conscious approach can help to reduce your environmental footprint in all areas of life. As such, we’ll also be walking the talk for the concert: thanks to the efforts of The Third Eye, this will be zero waste event!!
